If you’ve been following me on Facebook or Instagram, you are probably aware that this has been an interesting and challenging year for me.

Me and my sweet Dad
In addition to losing my father (much more quickly than expected) shortly after moving him in with us, there have been MULTIPLE other big life changes and challenges that have come my way this year.
Then, to top it all off, we lost the whole lower level of our home a couple of weeks ago in Hurricane Florence.
I will admit, I have had some days where I have wanted to crawl into a hole, or just run away…
But I know deep down that there’s a purpose for all of this, bigger than anything I can personally comprehend. For whatever reason, it seems the Universe is ‘cleaning house’ all over my life right now.
As it says in A Course in Miracles,
Ripping the walls out of our home after the hurricane
“I don’t know what anything is for.”
The truth is, I really don’t.
I, like most people, do like to believe that I have full control over my life and my circumstances, but in actuality I just make things harder for myself when I refuse to surrender to the plan that God has for my life.
The Course also says,
“A happy outcome to all things is sure.”
And, although it doesn’t always seem like that will be the case, I know this to be true.
Starting Over
So, in honor of starting over from scratch, I wanted to share a few things with you today.
1) A Song
I’m a big Colin Hay fan, and as I’ve been going through these challenging times, this song speaks to me on so many levels. I just learned it on guitar, and it’s raw and not polished at all, but it’s from the heart and I wanted to share it with you. It’s called ‘Waiting for my Real Life to Begin’. Here you go.

2) A Ritual
The second thing I want to share with you is a ritual. It’s something that I do every month at the new moon, and you can too if you want. I’ve been practicing this for years, and it’s something that just really serves me in my life, so I wanted to share it with you.
Every month at the new moon, I make a list of all of the things that are no longer serving me and I burn it. You can also shred it or plant it in the ground.
In the words of Dakara Kies, a powerful energy healer that I follow, in regard to this ritual:
Take time to transform yourself in some way to allow yourself to be seen in a new way. Pay attention to the emotions rising to the surface. Acknowledge them and simply let them go.
Find balance and fulfillment within as you shift into a place of knowing, knowing yourself on a deeper level, knowing that no matter what, all is well.
Nurture yourself through any emotional stories and shift them to create the space needed to create your dreams! Meditate and bring your body, mind and heart what it needs or call forth asking for the support of your Angels and Guides.
Ask questions, receive answers, knowledge and wisdom. Think of the interplay between your conscious and subconscious mind. Ask for the deeper wisdom to flow forth! Let it be easy!
Breathe in deeply… exhale and let go… Breathe in… exhale, let go. Allow your breath to serve you in a new way.
Allow your heart to step into the magic of everyday life.
Be peace, be Love, be true to yourself, even if that means disappointing another. Be in a space of Gratitude for all the wonder and magic that shows up in your life. Ask for your inner self to see and believe in the magic that shows up for you! Sometimes in the busyness of day to day life we forget to watch and claim the magic that presents itself.
Release what is no longer serving you, write out a list or the OLD story, giving all the energy and emotion to the page in preparation of release. Allow yourself to be freed and to align and move into resonance with what it is you are wanting.
This is the perfect time to focus on what needs to be released in order to lovingly care for yourself and open your heart center wider than ever before. Ask your inner self for guidance on what you are truly ready to release to allow more love to fill your heart, body and mind.
Take time during this full moon to list out those old stories, thoughts, emotions or patterns and prepare to release them with the full moon energy.
BE GRATEFUL – allow your heart to be filled!!!
This is a great time to express Gratitude for all that you have, all that your are and all that is coming your way!
3) Abundance Check Exercise
Another piece of this ritual includes writing an Abundance Check. Keep in mind, you can write something specific in the memo line that you want to create in your life, it doesn’t necessarily have to have anything to do with money. For example, maybe you want to heal a relationship or experience peace. You can write that.
This video is 5 years old, and I actually started doing this well before I made this video… it’s a ritual that I enjoy doing every month.
Just keep in mind when you watch the video that I originally created it for my team in a company I was in at the time, so just disregard that part. It applies no matter what your life goals are or what type of business you are in, or whatever. It just flat out works, no matter what. I don’t know why, I just recommend it based on my own experience.
4) Gratitude
Lastly, in the midst of all of the challenges I’ve come up against, I just celebrated 21 years of sobriety (while we were evacuated for the hurricane). We celebrated in downtown Annapolis, Maryland, near where we were staying with friends during the evacuation.
I will say, from the bottom of my heart, that no matter what I’m faced with in my life, I’m grateful that I get to be 100% present for every second of it. This has been the best 21 years ever, regardless of any circumstances.
Happiness is in the heart, not the circumstances.
Now I’d love to hear from you.
If any of this has resonated with you in any way, please leave me a comment below and let me know. Or, if you have a new moon/full moon ritual that works for you that you’d like to share, please leave that below as well. I’m always open to trying new rituals.
Thanks so much for hangin’ out with me today. I love you so much and am so grateful that you are here.
All my love,

Amy, thank you for your post and congratulations on 21. Glad you came through the hurricane ok. Quite an experience. Sounds like you are doing just fine in spite of the set backs. I just passed 43, survived “Andrew†caring for a number of prople. Have survived stage 3 colin cancer ,cardiac encounters, joint replacements as well as 30+ years in network and Internet marketing. Your journey , as mine, has ups and downs but appears to have more positives than negatives. Like Bill says “ …..the wisdom to know the difference.†Best to you. Lew
Thanks, Lew. Yes, I will be fine no matter what. I just stay focused on gratitude. I have had so much help and have been surrounded by so much love. Thanks so much for taking the time to say hello. Congrats to you as well! xo
You are so cool, Amy. I’ve been reading a book that speaks to listening to intuition as our guiding force. Clearly, I’ve heard that and read it before, but the context of this book really drove the importance of intuition home. And you are the personification of this practice. You should have been a “flower child” in the sixties, complete with your music. Love ya!
You are so awesome, Carol. Yes, as you know, I do live by my heart and my intuition. I’d love it if you would share the name of that book with me. 🙂 And, yes, if I was born 10 years earlier I would have been a flower child for sure. Love you. xoxo
