“I’m starting to get unsubscribes from my list, and less-than-supportive comments on my posts.What should I do?”

Let me ask you this…

Are you the kind of person who, if 20 people told you they LOVED your video or blog post, but 1 person gave you negative feedback, most of your energy and focus would be on what that 1 person
said?

If so, I can certainly relate.

I used to be really sensitive about that, but I knew that if I was going to grow and become more successful, I couldn’t worry about pleasing everyone.

Don’t be a people pleaser! If you try to please everyone, you will end up appealing to nobody. 🙂

Stay True to Your Voice

The most important thing you can do is to stay true to your voice, your message.

This takes courage, I know…

But, over time, what will happen is that you will end up with more and more fans who can relate to you.

And this is what you’re after.

But, be forewarned…

With more fans came more haters. And more critics.

Many people have a really hard time with this at first.

You may even hear things that are hurtful and heartless.

And, worse, some of the comments and criticism may even come from the people who love you the most, your friends and family.

The Evolution Process in Regard to Haters and Critics

Once you start to evolve in this area, this is what you have to remember:

If you’re not making some people uncomfortable with your message, then you’re not creating change.

In fact, that can be said about the most positive, influential people in history.

So, if you are starting to get your first taste of ‘hate mail’, I say.

Congratulations!

It means you are making an impact.

How To Handle the Haters and the Critics

I’m often asked how to deal with haters and critics.

In case you are wondering yourself, here’s my advice:

Ask yourself how qualified the person is  to be criticizing your work. Have they been in your shoes? Do they have some expertise that you value? Are they being constructive? Are they more successful than you in business?

1) If so, take it in.

Use it as constructive criticism. Use their success and wisdom to shorten your own learning curve.

2) If not, ignore their remarks.

Don’t read the emails and the posts. Don’t get roped in. Don’t allow yourself to be robbed of your true essence.

3) Be open.

To who? Mentors, peers that you respect, and people that come from love, support, and objectivity.

Refuse to Give Up

There are lots of reasons that entrepreneurs throw in the towel or only go so far with their message, their voice, their authenticity.

Fear of what people think is a huge fear that hardly anyone talks about.

That’s why I’m bringing it up. 🙂

People admire people that you can express feelings, emotions, opinions, and thoughts.

To make a difference you have to be tough, and stand in your truth.

And never give up.

If you allow the haters and the critics to hold you back, that would be a major shame.

After all…

If you stopped along the way of every critic, you would never get your voice out there.

So go out there and be brave…

Tell your truth.

Find your voice.

Sing your song.

Remember, the haters and the critics will come and go, but your voice and your message are here to stay.
