4 Steps for Creating a Successful Business- What’s Your Plan for 2012?
Are you ready to take your business to a new level in 2012? Or would you like to start a whole new business in the new year?
One of the main things to keep in mind if you’re thinking about creating a successful business in the new year is that leaders are willing to do whatever it takes. So if your really serious about truly creating a successful business (and reaching levels of success that are unprecedented for you up until this point), it will require getting out of your comfort zone.
Mindset Matters…
Many people make the mistake of thinking that creating a successful business is all about the action steps and the technical aspects of the business. The truth is that the most important aspect of creating a successful business is mindset.
Unfortunately, many people dive right into the how-to’s and the daily grind when working on creating a successful business, and they miss the most important part of the equation which has to do with the inner game.
Here are some steps to help you in your process of creating a successful business:
1) When making a plan for creating a successful business, you first need to get really clear about
- What you want and
- What you have to do to get there
Before you can successfully jump in to the how-to’s, it’s crucial to know exactly where you want to go.
2) Ask yourself:Â Â On the perfect day in my future, who do I see? What resources do I have available? What’s my current cash flow reality? Where am I living? And any other specifics you’d like to add…
Write a journal entry describing your perfect day. Allow yourself to feel the feelings that come up as you visualize.
Date the entry with a date in the future (however far out into the future you anticipate it taking for you to get to this perfect day), and write (in the present tense, as if it’s happening right now), what you’re experiencing from the time you wake up until the time you go to bed. Include all 5 of your senses if possible… this will really help with the visualization process.
There is ENORMOUS power in having a dream… especially when it comes to creating a successful business. So don’t be afraid to write your dreams down and be extremely clear.
Writing your dreams and goals down is important. Did you know that less than 3% of Americans write down your goals (and the majority of the remainder of the population work for those people)? It’s true.
3) Ask yourself: When it comes to creating a successful business and achieving my goals, what resources will I need? What help will I need to find in order to get there? Who will I need to partner with? Is there someone in particular that it would be beneficial to take on as a mentor?
Remember to get specific about how much you will need to be earning in order to be living your dream. When we get really specific, it makes it much easier to work backwards and figure out exactly what needs to happen to get to that point… when we’re really specific we can actually map the whole thing out.
Here’s a really old, but really relevant video that I created that explains exactly how to work backwards and map out a specific game plan for creating a successful business and reaching your goals.
I’ll share a quick story with you about this process…
With the new year coming up, I’m taking a really good look at what’s working and what’s not working in my business, what my goals for the new year are, and what changes I need to put in place in order to get where I want to go in the new year.
One of the things that I do every day (in addition to all of the things I just spoke about) is meditation. I find that in my moments of solitude, some of my most profound answers show up.
After mapping everything out, I asked for some answers to the questions I mentioned above such as what resources will I need? What help will I need to find in order to get there? Etc…
During my meditation some answers came to me… and they weren’t anything I had previously thought of. For example, the name of a potential mentor came to mind, someone I hadn’t thought of before. I have some incredible mentors in my life and my business already, but I was able to clearly see that the addition of this mentor in particular could actually help me take my business to the next level.
I went ahead and called him on the phone, and during our conversation I could see even more clearly some of the things that he could specifically help me to implement to help me reach my goals. I was able to get really clear about my plan…
So, in addition to the other steps I have mentioned above, I would also really recommend that you
4) Follow your heart and your inspiration.
This is exactly what I was doing in the story I just told you, and it’s really where the true power comes into play when creating a successful business.
If you attempt to do things because you think you ‘should’ or because someone else tells you to rather than following your inner guidance, you will end up swimming against the current. When we follow our hearts, the pieces of the puzzle will seem to magically fall into place every time.
But also remember, as I mentioned earlier, leaders are willing to do whatever it takes. So, once you’ve done all of the inner game work in regard to creating a succesful business, it’s time to do the work involved to get to your goals… it’s time to do whatever it takes. And this means no excuses.
