Last night I had the honor of being on a live webcast with none other than the great Neil Patel.
Neil Patel’s traffic strategies have generated 800+ million visitors to his clients blogs and websites… he definitely knows his stuff when it comes to blogging.
We had the honor of having Neil Patel as a keynote speaker at a recent event in Lake Las Vegas. We were all blown away by his level of expertise…
**I’ve actually completely changed some of my methods and strategies after learning so much from him about what actually works… and the changes I’ve made have taken my results to a whole new level.
Last night he dropped some serious nuggets that I wanted to create a blog post out of… because without them your chances of succeeding at blogging are not nearly as good.
He mentioned 3 things to leverage and 3 things to avoid when it comes to blogging… so here they are.
3 Things You Must Leverage To Be Successful at Blogging
It’s important to be transparent with your readers. Transparency creates trust.
When people can see inside of your life, and witness your struggles as well as your successes, they are much more likely to feel like they know you, like you, and trust you.
And helping our readers to get to know us, like us and trust us is essentially the ultimate goal when it comes to blogging, right?
Creating interaction on your blog is crucial. A great way to do this is by using ‘you’ or ‘I’ within your posts so that your readers feel like you are having a conversation with them.
Also, when your readers leave you a comment, it’s important that you respond! And if they leave you a substantial comment, it’s important that you respond with a substantial comment as well (in other words, don’t just say, “Thanks, Joe.”).
The idea is for your blog to feel like it’s ‘conversational.’
3) Detailed Content
Too often we see people throwing up a post just to throw up a post… they don’t take the time or energy to put detail into it.
Granted, there are definitely people on the internet who don’t want to take the time to read a detailed post… but the people who are actually SEARCHING for the topic your are writing about want as much detail as possible. So take the time to give them the details they are looking for. (This includes adding pictures, videos, infographics, etc to your posts).
So, those are the 3 things you must leverage to be successful at blogging.
Now let’s look at the 3 mistakes you must avoid.
3 Mistakes You Must Avoid To Be Successful at Blogging
1) Not Being Consistent
Being consistent with blogging is the key.
Creating consistent content over time is what will create traction for you with your blog…
And as soon as you stop being consistent, you will start to lose some of that traction and will have to work really hard to get it back when you start blogging consistently again.
2) Publishing Content You’re Not Proud Of
Don’t just create a post and publish it for the sake of creating something.
Only create content that you KNOW without a shadow of a doubt is going to bring massive value to your readers… something that you can be proud of.
Neil even recommended that you have a friend or family member read it before you publish it (someone that will be completely honest with you about what might be missing, etc). That way you can make any necessary edits BEFORE you publish so that you can feel proud of it when you do.
I mean, think about it…. would you be likely to come back to someone’s blog or become a loyal follower of theirs if the content they put up is mediocre at best? Probably not…
So make sure you are creating quality content that will solve your readers problems, and they will love you for life.
3) Not Picking a Niche
To create a loyal following on your blog, you have to know who your target audience is. And, to know who your target audience is, you have to define your niche.
Often times we see people blogging on all sorts of different topics with no particular niche.
If you don’t define a niche, it will be much harder to develop a base of loyal followers and subscribers.
Again, the goal is to solve problems for the people in your niche… and how can you do that if you don’t even know what your niche is?
So there you have it… the 3 Things You Must Leverage (And 3 Mistakes You Must Avoid) To Be Successful at Blogging.
It’s not rocket science, right? But once you actually start implementing this advice, you will see a mjor difference in your results as a blogger as well.
