Yes, that’s right… Facebook just added the new timeline for all Facebook Fan Pages. This change is effective immediately if you choose it, and everything will be automatically converted over on March 30, 2012.

Here’s a summary of some of the main changes for the Facebook Timeline for Pages

• You can now add your own unique cover photo to your fan page (it must be at lest 399 pixels wide and there are rules/guidelines you must follow to avoid getting banned from Facebook (video explains, and I’ve listed them below as well)
• You can no longer select a default landing tab that visitors to your fan page will automatically land on when they visit your page
• The tabs (that have always been on the left side of the page) are now called apps and they’re displayed across the top of your page (under your cover photo). You can add spiffy images to your apps to entice people to click on them… and you can also change their order (other than the ‘photos’ app which cannot be moved)
• There’s a new ‘admin’ button on the top where you can click to manage your page
• You can now receive messages on your fan page (and read them within the admin panel)

Here are the guidelines to follow when creating a cover for your Facebook Fan Page

Cover images must be at least 399 pixels wide and may not contain:

• Price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download it at our website”
• Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s About section.
• References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features
• Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”

All cover images are public, which means anyone visiting your Page will be able to see the image you choose. Covers must not be false, deceptive or misleading, and must not infringe on third parties’ intellectual property. You may not encourage or incentivize people to upload your cover image to their personal timelines.

Have fun creating your new Facebook fan page and your new cover (just remember to stay within the guidelines!).

The Facebook Timeline has been up and running for months, but many people have still not switched over and started using it.

If that’s you, I have some news for you…

Facebook just announced that over the next several weeks it will become mandatory for all of it’s users (over 800 million) to start using the Facebook Timeline.

What is the Facebook Timeline?

About a month ago, I did a post with a video that goes over some of the details of the Facebook timeline. You can access that post here.

Here are just a few of the features of the Facebook Timeline:

• New cover design. This allows you to get creative and feature the photo of your choice, your blog header, and announcement or whatever you like. It’s a great way to help feature your business (more tips about that in the recording of my webinar).
• Allows you to go back in time and add stories and pictures to fill in the blanks
• Can easily access status posts based on any date in the past (on your own timeline or on your friends’)
• Add life events with a couple of clicks
• Feature certain stories to help them stand out
• Edit or hide posts before they’re seen by others
• 7-day grace period before the public will see your timeline so be sure and hide anything you don’t want displayed on your timeline before the grace period ends. You can also choose to publish immediately

I Love the Facebook Timeline!

I’m absolutely loving the Facebook Timeline. I’ve been using it since it first rolled out for developers (before it was launched to the general public) and it’s been awesome in so many ways.

One of my favorite features of the new Facebook Timeline is the new cover design. This allows you to customize the cover of your profile to help yourself stand out, to promote your business, to highlight a current promotion you are doing at the time (book launch, etc), or whatever you like.

I change the cover on my Facebook Timeline regularly to keep it fun and up to date. Here’s what mine looks like right now:

Also, notice how the top line under your profile picture can now be a live link to your fanpage or business. This is another HUGE benefit of the Facebook Timeline.

So, here we are for part 2 of my Living Without the Heard Mentality series…

In part 1 we discussed that in order to be a leader you need to be able to live without the herd mentality. Today we are going to look at Internet Marketing in particular and why in order to be a successful internet marketer you definitely need to be able to start living without the herd mentality.

So, as we discussed in part 1, we are typically raised to believe that we need to go to school and get good grades so that we can get a good job working for someone else.

When someone decides to become an internet marketer, they have decided to be an ‘individual’ (you can learn more about the definition if an individual in part 1). They are basically throwing themselves out into the world of doubters and critics and naysayers and negative people who think internet marketing is some sort of scam or less-than-ethical form of doing business.

The majority of people on the planet are in fact working for someone other than themselves, so anything that presents itself as going against that norm will become something for them to resist, doubt and be critical of.

Being an internet marketer is certainly, in many people’s eyes, something that breaks the norm and therefore cannot be trusted. Many people even perceive it to be shady.

So, if you’ve chosen the profession of internet marketing, it will certainly require you to start living without the herd mentality if you are committed to succeeding in this profession.

Some of your friends might even stop hanging around you once you choose to become an internet marketer (usually because they’re still working for someone else, trading hours for dollars, with a cap on the amount of money they can earn, while being told when they can and can’t take time off).

But it’s definitely a tradeoff…

Personally, the benefits that I receive (and my daughters receive) from my decision to become an internet marketer far outweigh the cost of people questioning my profession.

Remember, living without the herd mentality requires giving up being concerned about what others will think about you.

Here are just a few of the benefits that many of us experience by being  internet marketers:

• Working on our time, when we want, for as much or as little as we want
• Being able to basically create money on demand by simply creating our own products
• Time freedom
• Financial freedom
• Unlimited earning potential
• Hanging out within an awesome community of like-minded entrepreneurs
• Leading by example and showing our children that there’s another way to live and earn money
• Leadership development
• Being able to consistently tap into our own creativity
• Residual income (in many cases)
• Can work from anywhere (home, coffee shops, and anywhere else you like to hang out)
• Makes it easy to travel because we can work from anywhere… and it’s inspiring to our audience to be able to hear our stories as we travel (so traveling is just a win/win)
• Personal Growth
• Opportunities to learn exiting new skills
• It’s fun (and sure beats punching a timeclock every day to make someone else rich)

So, please be forewarned. Being an internet marketer is like a dream come true, in my opinion. But if you’re serious about playing a big game and truly succeeding at this profession, it will require you to leave the herd and start living without the herd mentality.

Personally, I wouldn’t have it any other way… and I absolutely love being an internet marketer and living without the herd mentality.
